As a network of hospitality training centres, one of ASSET-H&C’s objectives is to promote a sustainable hospitality and tourism. The goal is to have a positive impact on the society, environment and economy of the countries members are working in.
To achieve this goal, ASSET-H&C launched the Ecospitality Initiative, which aims at shaping the next generations of responsible tourism professionals by creating conducive environment – eco-schools – for the capacity building of young people – eco-students.
As part of this project, ASSET-H&C published on June 5th an Eco-Guide for Hospitality Businesses and Schools, thanks to fruitful collaborations with Artelia and EXO Travel.
The guide gathers good practices and practical recommendations regarding energy and water consumption, waste and pollution and mitigation and adaptation. It also contains Hospitality Insights, which are case studies from hospitality actors in the Southeast Asian region, and external links to go further in finding solutions. It aims at helping all interested tourism stakeholders increase their environmental sustainability.
To launch the Eco-Guide and present it to tourism stakeholders, ASSET-H&C organized 2 events on World Environment Day (June 5th) in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and in Bangkok, Thailand. The events were organized in partnership with EXO Travel in HCMC and PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) in Bangkok who introduced PATA Buffet Initiative aiming at tackling food waste in the hospitality industry.
In both events, ASSET-H&C also put in the spotlight other inspirational initiatives undertaken by industry professionals (hotels and restaurants) and environmental organisations (Winnow Solutions, Refill Not Landfill, etc.).
The events gathered around 80 people, mainly hospitality and catering professionals, but also intergovernmental organisations, schools, suppliers of eco-solutions and Chambers of Commerce.
Several companies, groups and schools have requested the Guide so they can use and share it. ASSET-H&C was also invited by EXO Travel to present the Guide in another event in HCMC with hotels’ General Managers and a group of volunteers has offered to translate it in Vietnamese. SPREAD THE WORD!
