Are the notions of respect for the Environment, Local Communities, and Economic Viability deeply interconnected? How collaborations with communities and H&T stakeholders determine our long-term impacts?
The European Institute of Cooperation and Development (IECD) and its regional project Association of Southeast Asian Social Enterprises for Training in Hospitality & Catering (ASSET-H&C) are excited to announce the upcoming public conference, “Holistic Sustainability in Hospitality: From Action to Impact with Communities in Southeast Asia,” taking place in the morning of November 27, 2024, at the Ibis Style Hotel in Bangkok, Thailand.
This year’s conference will emphasize the critical interconnectedness of environmental sustainability, social responsibility, and economic viability—concepts embodied in the principle of Integral Ecology. This event will bring together tourism professionals, hospitality leaders and NGOs, to engage with industry experts and leaders at the intersection of these critical fields through:
“Since 2022, I have been on a mission to revolutionize culinary practices focusing on eco-friendliness and sustainability, as well as to empower young Thai chefs from disadvantaged backgrounds by offering them opportunities to grow and thrive in the industry. At Electric Sheep, my co-founder and I blend Mediterranean heritage with local produce, creating a dining experience that reflects a deep connection to nature and community. We hope our rooftop garden serves as a reminder of the bond between people and the earth in the heart of hustle Bangkok.”
As a Sustainability Leader in a multinational tour operation group, Jiraphat Briand shared: “Through my work at EXO Travel, I have learned that true environmental conservation goes hand in hand with empowering local communities. By engaging and supporting these communities, we not only protect our natural resources but also create sustainable livelihoods that foster long-term resilience. It is a powerful cycle when communities thrive, so does the environment.”
“Social enterprises powerfully illustrate that profit and purpose can thrive together. By addressing critical social challenges and achieving financial success, they inspire a vision of business as a force for good, cultivating a brighter future while delivering meaningful economic impact. Through my experiences over the past years, Thai society has become diverse and complex. Social enterprise is a crucial catalyst for pivoting and making a positive impact on solving different challenges and creating inclusive growth.”
The key objectives of the conference are to showcase sustainable case studies that inspire organizations to adopt best practices in hospitality and tourism, while highlighting the vital interconnections among human, environmental, social, and economic sustainability. Additionally, the event aims to foster collaboration by encouraging partnerships among stakeholders, paving the way for meaningful impact within local communities.
We invite all interested parties to participate in this essential conversation on sustainable hospitality. Together, we can drive impactful change in our communities and the hospitality industry.
