July 15, 2017

Sharing is caring!

The ASSET-H&C network was officially launched in May 2016 with 10 members, shortly transitioning to a group of 12 schools from August 2016.

After a year of existence and some first fruitful encounters and exchanges, 2 newcomers were added to the community in 2017:

  • EGBOK (Cambodia)

Created in 2009, this vocational training center located in Siem Reap offers 2 training paths to vulnerable youth coming from the whole country. The first and historic path combines skills in both housekeeping and food & beverage service areas, while the second one focuses on cooking competencies.

Both courses are completed by English, Computer, Math, Global Knowledge and Professional Life skills.

Every year, 40 new students enter those programmes for 12 months, which include a 22-week professional internship. So far, 246 young women and men have graduated from EGBOK and been guided towards a durable professional integration.

  • Yangon Bakehouse (Myanmar)

Training exclusively vulnerable women, aged from 18 to 40 years old, the Yangon Bakehouse is one of the first and most well-known social enterprises in Myanmar. The Culinary Training programme, which includes Bakery, Kitchen, Front of House, Life Skills, English and Computer classes, lasts for a total of 7 months, including 4 dedicated to on-the-job training at the school’s commercial outlets.

Every year, about 24 women are given are offered the opportunity to join the training, and benefit from job placement services. Since the Yangon Bakehouse’ launch in 2012, 91 women have graduated from its program.

Those 2 new member schools joined the network after going through the standard membership process set up by existing members, which includes a screening step (verification of compliance with criteria, discussion with ASSET-H&C coordination, review of membership conditions), national peer reviews and global membership validation.

All members unanimously welcomed EGBOK and the Yangon Bakehouse in the ASSET-H&C family and are eager now to get to know them better and exchange on their mutual experiences!
