ASSET-H&C is glad to contribute to the recent “Human Capital In COVID-19 Recovery” Report by Destination Mekong. In connection to the report, our members are listed as entrusted vocational training schools for the industry.
It has been clear over the last few years what a devastating impact the pandemic is having on the tourism sector. In light of this, Destination Mekong conducted a focus group with industry leaders and compiled a report addressing talent needs in the challenging period of COVID-19 recovery. We are proud to say that the ASSET-H&C team have been proactive contributors to this report. Combining quantitative data with qualitative one, it aims to offer a comprehensive overview of the industry’s human capital needs and how educational institutions can equip their students to meet these needs.
First, a short survey was conducted to explore Tourism, Hospitality & Events (TH&E) businesses’ emerging needs in terms of human capital and opportunities for enhanced collaboration between industry and education partners. A focus group with selected members from Experience Mekong Collection and MeTAG was then organised in order to have a more in-depth dialogue with industry stakeholders.
The report includes tips for: digitalisation, offering internship positions, as well as effective digital marketing. It aims to increase promotion of training opportunities and help to rebrand the sector overall.
Concluding, the report calls for action for stronger collaboration between the TH&E industry and educational institutes. In doing so, MeTAG’s Education and Research Group has established an online platform and published a directory of “Hotel and Tourism Degrees in the Mekong Region”. We are thrilled to see that all ASSET-H&C member schools are featured in this as entrusted vocational training schools for the industry.
